Some writers argue that articles should be long and take hours to write. The advice I’m about to give here is a little different to what ‘avid writers’ (but not necessarily successful marketers) advise. You see, writers write a lot because they enjoy it. They like seeing their thoughts in print. On the other hand, if you’re an article marketer, you want to think in terms of how you can get your point and your information across in the most concise manner possible.
Why do you want to do that? Because a shorter article will lead your reader to your resource box quicker. It’s been proven that the earlier you put in your link in email broadcasts, the more clicks it will get. The principle also applies to article marketing. The shorter your article, the more clicks you are likely to get, provided your article is interesting and captivates your reader of course.
Now, in an article, the second most important part after your title is your opening paragraph. You’ve got to make it compelling enough so that your reader will read on to the second paragraph and so on, until they click the link in your resource box.
Starting articles with a controversial statement or taking a strong stand is a great way to start off because it kinds of polarizes your readers. Those who like what you have to say will stay on and likely become your most responsive customers. Those who don’t like what you have to say may also stay on to read because you have started your article in a passionate manner!
